Type Locality and Naming

The type section is section is located at Dalinuo’en, Kashketeng Banner, Inner Mongolia, with the composite section being situated at Balagar (the upper rock member) and Sirewenduo’er (the middle and lower rock members), Abahanar Banner. It was named the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region in 1975, and was issued officially in 1978.


Lithology and Thickness

Volcaniclastics and volcanics. Lower clastic-rock member represents interbeds of grey-green and yellow-green sandstone and slate, intercalated with sandy conglomerate and bioclastic limestone. Middle volcanic-rock member is composed of rhyolite, variegated andesite and dacite, intercalated with banded siliceous siltstone and andesitic breccia and basalt. Upper clastic-rock member is interbeds of grey-green and grey-black siltstone and feldspar-rich sandstone, intercalated with multilayer bioclastic limestones and siliceous rocks. Thickness is 5631 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Gegenaobao Fm (Gegen'aobao Fm)

Upper contact

Disconformable contact with the overlying Xiujimqin Fm (Xi'ujimqin Fm) in the Maodeng area.

Regional extent

Distributed in the areas of the Xi’ujimqin Banner, the Keshiketeng Banner, the Abahanar Banner, the Abaga Banner, the Sunyte Left Banner and Sunyte Right Banner, with a fairly great change in both its lithology and thickness.

Fossils

It yields abundant animal fossils and a small amount of fragments of plant fossils. Brachiopods are represented by the Dalinuria liaoningensis-Paramarginifera dalinurica-Anidanthus assemblage, including Haydenella hexigtenica, Muirwoodia mammata, Waagenoconcha permocarbonica and Rhynchopora lobjaensis, etc. Corals are represented by Tachylasma magnum and Bradyphyllum;

Fusulinida represented by Pseudodoliolina ozawai; Plant fossils represented by Paracalamites.
